Footfall was a one-off processional, dusk walk and woodland ceremony commemorating 50 years since Hardcastle Crags was once again saved from a plan to dam the flowing water and fill the valley to the brim.

Together we acknowledged the great determination of many local people who saved this exceptionally beautiful valley for the enjoyment of future generations and reaffirm our commitment to that.

Throughout summer 2019, Sonya in her role as a National Trust Visitor Experience Officer coordinated a series of creative outdoor opportunities, the outcomes of which were shared at a special event.  This included commissioned banners made by artist Amy Mellor, “Singing in the Landscape” workshop with Satteli and “Drawing in the Landscape” workshop with artist, Jess Kidd. Sound Installation artist, Dan Fox also created a sound environment as part of the ceremony.

Our walking journey upriver took us through “Little Switzerland”, to a location where the water might have met the high walls of a dam. As night fell, using song, sound and lamp light we celebrated all that is special and unique about Hardcastle Crags.
